Surroundings: The village is on an unspoilt, scenic stretch 5 km (3 miles) from the Danube in an area that features numerous archeological and cultural sites and nature reserves. The most interesting one in the region is the 8,000 hectares (20,000 acres) UNESCO World Heritage-listed Srebarna Biosphere Reserve. It is full of unique types of vegetation and home to more than 160 species of water birds, including endangered small cormorants, dalmatian pelicans and ferruginous ducks. The Karakuz natural game reserve provides opportunities for hunting.
